pQCT Technology the 3rd-Dimension in Bone Densitometrypqct-3rd-dim

Bone mass as measured by DEXA technology does not sufficiently explain bone strength. Geometry information is needed to access the strength of the bone. QCT technology enables real volumetric density measurements in g/ccm and estimates in a non-invasive way the fracture and bending strength of bones in vivo. pQCT separates cortical and trabecular bone compartments and thus can monitor metabolic changes very quickly and precisely. Additionally histomorphometric parameters like endosteal and periosteal circumferences, total and cross sectional bone areas are determined in vivo.

pQCT technology makes a three-dimensional assessments of cortical and trabecular bone in one evaluation. It is a precise, true volumetric measurement instrument that establishes all bone mechanical parameters at the forearm and distal tibia or at the proximal and distal femur and at the tibia (cortical thickness, trabecular density, moment of inertia, etc). It meets the most demanding requirements of the bone specialist and is unsurpassed in orthopedics and pediatrics.

pQCT technology also offers a large bone densitometry system designed specifically for studies of larger animals and objects with extremely high resolution. 300mm gantry accommodates specimens including non-human primates, sheep, dogs, and rabbits. Capable of scanning the axial as well as the appendicular skeleton with high precision and accuracy.  Or choose a model to assess true volumetric bone density in research studies on a wide range of smaller animals from rats to ferrets.   Researchers can separately measure trabecular and cortical bone compartments detecting bone change in as little as two weeks, greatly reducing or eliminating the need for histomorphometry.
